Policy Management

Whether it’s the need to demonstrate and evidence compliance, respond quickly to regulatory change or prevent security breaches, the need for effective policy management and communication cannot be ignored.

Policy Management Requirements

For senior management, there’s an urgent requirement to demonstrate they have taken seriously their governance obligations to the board, patients and employees.

For middle managers with immediate policy responsibility, there’s a clear need to have full control of communications and staff awareness.

For administrative staff tasked with tracking employee acceptance, ‘chasing’ people to confirm agreement is hugely inefficient and expensive.

According to Action Against Medical Accidents (AVMA), as many as 63% of trusts in England had at least one overdue alert. Moreover, even though alerts related to critical matters including warnings about procedures in surgery, the risk of overdoses, and using medical equipment correctly, 1,242 cases existed where trusts had failed to act on alerts and risks, even after deadlines for the implementation of safer measures had passed.

Many of the issues exposed above come from the fact that traditional methods of communication, such as the use of the intranet, relies on the employees visiting and being able to locate the latest publication. The organisation is then left to hope that staff have read and understood the content – and when required contributed, this is simply unreliable and un-auditable.

No excuses….

Whether it’s the need to demonstrate and evidence compliance, respond quickly to regulatory change or prevent security breaches, the need for effective policy management and communication cannot be ignored.
